Time for a New Heating System?

If your furnace is 10-15 years old, it’s already reached its average lifespan.  If it’s even older and still working fine, consider yourself among the fortunate few.

But here’s the thing: no matter how new or old it might be, it won’t last forever.  So, is now the time to replace it?  It could be if you notice one or more of these symptoms:

Gas & Electric Bills Going on the Rise
Rising gas and electricity prices are not the only reason for higher home heating bills. Furnaces often lose their efficiency as they age, especially if they have not been properly maintained.

Furnace Repairs within the Past 2 Years
Furnaces are like cars. As they age, you replace one part with more repairs just waiting around the corner. Before long, you’re spending $500 or more just to keep the old furnace running. Sooner or later, it’s not worth even another $10 repair.

Thermostat Operation
Do you feel that some rooms are too cold while others are warmer than you would like? Or, are you always trying to adjust your thermostat to make your home more comfortable? This is a sign of poor air distribution, a dirty air filter, a problem with your thermostat, and other possible causes.

Odd Noises
An ageing furnace can start sounding off with banging, popping, rattling, or squealing noises. If they persist, it’s to call in a professional as a home furnace should be felt, and not heard.

That Dry, Dusty Feeling

Old furnaces often lack the ability to moisturize and clean the air in your home. Your indoor air may feel stuffy or stale. You also might notice an increase in static shock, dry and stuffy noses, etc. These are all signs that your furnace is losing its ability to provide the kind of comfort you once took for granted.

Even if you notice one or more of the symptoms mentioned above, we can’t precisely tell you what’s going on. To do that, we’ll need to thoroughly inspect your furnace and possibly even your air ducts. But this much IS certain: contacting McKinzie Heating & Air sooner than later for expert furnace trouble shooting will allow us to diagnose the problem before it gets any worse, thus very likely saving you money. If the issue can be repaired and it appears to make sense to do so, that’s what we’ll recommend. Should it be replaced? We’ll discuss that option when the time comes.

For now, contact McKinzie Heating & Air for the best in home heating and cooling service.
